Awatea is a Māori word meaning daylight or the dawning of a new day and is also my middle name. To me awatea is knowing that when there is darkness, a new day will dawn and there will always be light again

Taking a multifaceted approach to design Rosette's work explores contrast and duality. Taking inspiration from the dualities within each of us Rosette's work explores the light and the dark, tradition and experimentation, softness and structure, the refined and the raw and the complexity of blending opposing forces.
As a designer-maker, Rosette describes her practice as designing through making, placing garment construction and pattern-making at the centre of her process, often making one of one pieces. Her designs prioritise quality and comfort. Blending strength and fragility, Rosette draws inspiration from lived experience and her connection to the natural world of Aotearoa. Each piece is hand crafted in Rosette's home studio in Ōhinehou..... and made with so much love ♡
