Awatea is a Māori word meaning daylight or the dawning of a new day and is also my middle name. To me awatea is knowing that when there is darkness, a new day will dawn and there will always be light again. 

Awatea is the creative practice of Rosette Hailes-Paku, exploring a personal relationship with the natural world. Her work is shaped by contrast and duality, brining together opposing qualities of strength and delicacy. Rosette is drawn to embracing imperfections, organic forms and natural textures within each piece. Each garment is handmade in Aotearoa with so much love.
